FIFO High-Density Pallet Flow Racking System for Heavy-Duty Storage
Pallet flow racking system is regarded as an effective high-density storage solution that realizes semi-automatics by combining rack structure with elevated rails and dynamic components including wheels, rollers, conveyors, etc. With slightly inclined rails, pallet flow racking system is able to take the advantage of gravity. Pallets ready for loading will be placed on the high end of the rolling lanes in the system. And once pallets are laid on these slightly sloping lanes, they would move towards the low end under the function of gravity for unloading.
Compared with standard selective pallet racking system, pallet flow racking system is able to store more pallet loads in the same amount of space, thus, it is categorized as a high-density storage system. There is no aisle in the interior of pallet flow racking system and forklifts do not have to drive into the system to handle loads. In fact, it only needs two aisles: one aisle is used for loading and the other aisle is served as unloading aisle, greatly enhancing the storage density of the system since multiple pallet loads can be aligned back-to-back without aisle among them.
Therefore, pallet flow racking system can reduce a variety of operational expenditures like forklift, labor and energy, which can compensate or even exceed the cost of the system construction if storage density is up to a certain degree.
Pallet flow racking system follows first-in, first-out (FIFO) load rotation order. The flow storage system is based on the following two parts:
Dynamic elements refer to the wheels or rollers installed within the declining frame which are in charge of carrying pallet cargoes from the high end of the flow system to the opposite end by means of gravity. Based on the dynamic design, the pallet flow racking system is able to effectively store and retrieve cargo and keep high-density storage at the same time.
Static elements include rack frames and some specialized components used for improving safety. There are brakes at the intervals within the flow rail system which is used to control the speed of moving pallets, protecting the pallet and pallet load from undue jolts and impacting each other, causing possible product damage or rack damage.
In addition, there are pallet entry guides at the high end of the system used to help forklift operator position the pallets correctly within the pallet flow racking system. Besides, pallet ramp is another safety component, which is set at the exit end of each flow lane to reduce end impact and help bring pallet loads to a gentle stop.
