RD Sampler DST Tools Rupture Disc Sampler for High Pressure Well Testing

Introduction of the RD samplers DST tools

The RD sampler is the sampling tools used in oil well drill stem testing service. The full name is rupture disk sampler with a full bore design. The RD samplers are operated by annulus pressure in cased hole, and mainly used in the full bore formation testing operation to get the formation fluid sample under downhole pressure state. The entire test tube string is kept full bore status before and after sampling and does not affect the conduct of subsequent operations.

Operation of the DST Tools RD sampler

The sampler is controlled by a pressure-operated rupture disk and has a sample mandrel with a built-in differential area.  In order to catch a sample, the annulus pressure is increased to a predetermined level, then the rupture disk in the sampler breaks, and the mandrel traps the sample.

When the rupture disk breaks, the differential area of the sample mandrel is exposed to an air chamber on one side and hydrostatic pressure and applied annulus pressure on the other. This condition make the sample mandrel moving up and trapping the sample. When the sample mandrel reaches the top of its stroke, it is locked in place by a set of locking dogs.
