LH Overview

Luteinizing hormone (LH) is a kind of glycoprotein gonadotropin secreted by basophil cells of anterior pituitary. It mainly promotes ovulation, forms corpus luteum and secretes progesterone under the synergistic effect of FSH. In general, the normal value in non ovulation period is 5-25 mIU / ml, lower than 5 mIU / ml indicates insufficient gonadotropin function, which is seen in Sheehan's syndrome. High FSH plus high LH indicates ovarian function decline, and LH / FSH ≥ 3 is one of the basis for the diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome.
