ASTM B338 / ASME SB338 Grade 5 / UNS R56400 Titanium Alloy
Seamless Tubes and Pipes What is Grade 5 Titanium Tube? A titanium grade 5 seamless tube could be manufactured from hollow billet by any cold reducing
process or cold drawing process. This process is one that will
yield a seamless Titanium Gr 5 High Pressure Tube, thereby meeting
the requirements prescribed. Alternatively, the Titanium Grade 5
Welded Tube is to be made from a flat rolled product by using an
automatic arc welding process on the alloy. Grade5, UNS R56400, 3.7164, Ti-6Al-4V is the most widely used α+β titanium alloy. It has excellent
specific strength, excellent corrosion resistance and fracture
toughness, as well as good welding processability and the ability
to withstand extreme temperatures, and can be strengthened by heat
treatment. The alloy was originally developed for the aerospace
market and is widely used in aerospace structural components.
Because of its very good biocompatibility, it has also been widely
recognized in the medical industry. Specification STM B338-17e1 Standard Specification for Seamless and Welded

Titanium is an important structural metal developed in the 1950s,
which widely used in various fields because of their high strength,
good corrosion resistance, and high heat resistance. The first
practical titanium alloy is Ti-6Al-4V alloy which successfully
developed in 1954. Due to its heat resistance, strength,
plasticity, toughness, formability, weldability, corrosion
resistance and biocompatibility. It has become the flagship alloy
in the titanium alloy industry, and the amount of this alloy used
has accounted for 75% to 85% of all titanium alloys. Many other
titanium alloys can be regarded as modifications of Ti-6Al-4V
alloy. Applications - The Titanium Alloy Tubes is used in the following applications:-
- Chlorination systems
- Flue gas scrubbers
- Outlet ducting and stack liners for power plants, pulp and paper
bleach plants, sulfur dioxide scrubbers, and weld overlay of less
corrosion resistant metals
- Acid production and pickling systems
- Pharmaceutical industries use alloy fittings and tubing to avoid
contamination caused by corrosion related failures
- Cellophane manufacturing
- Chlorination systems
- Pesticide production
- Incineration scrubber systems
- Chemical process industry in equipment like flue gas scrubbers,
chlorination systems, sulfur dioxide scrubbers, pulp and paper
bleach plants, pickling systems, and nuclear fuel reprocessing
- Waste water processing
- Pollution control stack liners, ducts, dampers, scrubbers,
stack-gas reheaters, fans and fan housings
- Flue gas desulfurization systems
- Chemical processing components like heat exchangers, reaction
vessels, evaporators, and transfer piping
- Sour gas wells
- Pulp and paper production
- Waste treatment
- Pharmaceutical and food processing equipment
