These double-cone springs are used in your upholstery to ensure that the seat is returned to its original position and that seats, arms and backs provide the required support.

It is best to replace a set of springs together, and the new chair or sofa springs will be much stronger in comparison with those replaced.

The sizes are shown as 'height x wire thickness', therefore 'inch x gauge'. The higher the gauge number, the thinner the wire.

Chair Springs Double Cone - Available in a variety of sizes and gauges. It is suggested you use: 12 Gauge for arms and backs only. 10 Gauge for seats and some firmer backs. 8-9 or less Gauge for seats only. These springs are also known as hourglass or waisted springs

Remarks

The “double coil” spring has a larger open coil at each end. They are sold by Tons, but you also can buy the number as you require. They are available in different heights and firmness.

They must be fastened to a webbed, wood or metal strap seat foundation. Next, they are anchored to the frame.

This is done by tying them to the desired height and firmness using spring twine. Sometimes this is referred to as “8-way hand tied”. This is the best way, but not all tying follows this method.
