Idlers are important parts of the belt conveyor with various type and large quantity. Idlers are used to support the belt, reduce the belt running resistance and make the belt verticality not exceed the certain limit to ensure the belt running stably. Idlers are classified as steel roller, impact roller, UHMWPE roller and HPDE roller according to its material class.

In spite of the correct alignment of a conveyor structure and belt splice, it is a common phenomenon for a belt to misalign at times, mainly as a result of incorrect material loading (off centre) or in cases where a conveyor is mounted onto a mobile stacker / reclaimer where the fall across the boom causes the belt to move to one side.A solution to belt misalignment can be to install self-aligning idlers sets or training idlers which are able to detect belt misalignment and automatically re-align the belt.

The self-centralising troughing set is designed as a series of rollers arranged in a trough positioned onto the supporting transom.The installation of the self-centralising troughing sets is advised to be positioned on the upper strand rather than the return section, and used only when the workingconditions require.

The self-centralising troughing sets are usually equiped with guide roller to keep the belt aligh when the conveyor running.
