Thermal, Hot Laminating Film
Thermal laminating machines, also known as hot shoes or hot roller
laminating machines, are standard office equipment. These laminates
use a thermosetting film that utilizes a thermosetting adhesive to
ensure your project is finished with a crystal clarity. This is the
standard laminate that you might be used to. (If you have a
laminate bag, you can also use a hot laminate bag to help you
complete those small projects.) Thermal laminate is available in a
wide range of sizes, allowing you to laminate anything from
business cards to wide-format posters.
Uses for Thermal Laminating Film
The uses for thermal laminating film are incredibly varied simply
because so many projects can handle the high temperatures used with
hot roll laminators. Consider using thermal laminating film for
projects such as…
- Documents (letter-size and bigger)
- Posters
- ID cards and business cards
- Banner and display graphics (not all banner materials are
compatible with thermal films – please contact us to see if yours
is)
- Restaurant menus
- Legal documents

What to consider in laminating film
While laminating film is one of the most important office supplies
for many companies, you might not know exactly what to look for.
It’s not just temperature you need to consider about laminating
film. The finish, thickness, and roll length are all key components
in choosing a laminating film.
Finish:
There are several different finishes available in composite films.
Matte laminates don't have glare or anti-fingerprint, but keep in
mind that they do have some granular texture. This type of film is
ideal for posters, artwork, and displays. On the other hand, the
standard, shiny composite film is shiny and gives clearer detail
and brighter colors. This is a cost-effective option for menus, ID
CARDS, reports, and so on.
Choose between the two, add satin or gloss film to your multi-layer
wish list. The images and text look sharp, but the glare problem
does not exist!
Thickness:
The thickness of laminated film was measured in MILs.A millimeter
is one thousandth of an inch, which means it's very thin.Although
all laminates are thin, different MIL thicknesses have different
applications.
For example, 1.5 mil film (0.0015 ") is very thin and is ideal for
items printed on heavy CARDS, such as business CARDS.This is the
cheapest laminate.
On the other hand, 10 mil film is very hard and hard to bend. It is
commonly used for ID badges, reference tables, and menus that do
not collapse. If you're using roll film, be sure to circle the edges
of your last piece, because the laminate is actually quite sharp!
There are different Miler thicknesses between the two, but keep in
mind that the higher the Miler number, the sturdier your final
document will be (and therefore less curved).
Width , Coresize , and Length:
These three factors are mainly applicable to the type of film press
you have. Many laminating machines have the ability to handle
laminating in different widths and core sizes, so it is important
to make sure that the film roller you buy will work with your
laminating machine.
As for length, most films have a standard length in common. For
rolls with more options, don't buy rolls that are too long
: they may be too big to fit into your machine!
