► Brief Introduction

This monitor uses the oscillometric method to measure NIBP. It can be used for adult, pediatric and neonatal patients.

Oscillometric devices measure the amplitude of pressure changes in the occluding cuff as the cuff is deflated above systolic pressure. The amplitude increases suddenly as the pulse traverses the occlusion of the artery. As the cuff pressure decreases further, the pulsations increase in amplitude, reach a maximum (approximately the mean pressure), and then decrease.

In adult and pediatric mode, blood pressure measurements determined with this device comply with the American National Standard for Electronic or Automated Sphygmomanometers (ANSI/AAMI SP10-1992) for mean error and standard deviation, compared to measurements auscultatory in a representative. patient population. ► Measurement Limitations

Measurements are impossible with heart rate extremes of less than 40 bpm or greater than 240 bpm, or if the patient is on a heart-lung machine.

The measurement may be inaccurate or impossible in the following situations:

• A regular arterial pressure pulse is hard to detect.
• Patients with cardiac arrhythmias.
• Patients with excessive and continuous movement such as shivering or convulsions.
• Patients with rapid blood pressure changes.
• Patients with severe shock or hypothermia that reduces blood flow to the peripheries.
• Patients with obesity, where a thick layer of fat surrounding a limb dampens the oscillations coming from the artery.
• Patients on an edematous extremity.
