SureSign's VM Series monitors systolic, diastolic and mean arterial pressure (MAP) by recording pressure pulses through a series of controlled contraction steps in an inflated cuff.

There are three types of NBP measurements: Manual measurement - Press the NBP button on the front panel to start an NBP measurement.

• Interval Measurements – Starts NBP measurements every n minutes, where n is the number of minutes between measurements. Please change the specified time interval in the Blood Pressure menu.

• STAT measurements - The monitor takes as many measurements as possible in 5 minutes, with pauses between each measurement.

Limitations of NBP measurement

You cannot measure NBP in a patient with a heart rate of less than 40 or more than 300 or on a heart-lung machine. NBP measurement may be inaccurate or impossible in patients with the following conditions:

1. Irregular arterial pressure pulsation

2. Arrhythmia

3. Excessive and repetitive movements, such as shaking or twitching

4. Blood pressure changes rapidly

5. Severe shock or hypothermia, which reduces blood flow to the area

6. Obesity, a thick layer of fat around a leg, weakens the vibrations in the arteries

7. Edema limbs

The Suresigns Monitor can contain PHiliphh NBP or CAS NBP hardware modules. The steps to measure NBP are the same whether the monitor contains a PHiliphh NBP module or a CAS NBP module. However, since the monitors in your care setting may contain different NBP modules, you should be aware of these differences:

You can determine whether your monitor contains a PHiliphh NBP module or a CAS NBP module by looking at the configuration settings in the system menu. If your display contains a PHiliphh NBP module, the configuration settings contain the text NBP-P; If the display contains the NBP-CAS module, the configuration settings contain the text NBP-C.
