Warehouse Automatic Pick Module For High-Efficiency Storage
To maximize warehouse space usage and improve the effectiveness of order picking, our pick modules strategically combine storage rack, shelving and conveyor systems. The Ironstone team has abundant experience in the design and installation of such modules.
We've built everything ranging from straightforward pick tunnels to intricate, multi-level systems, combining handpicking and automation for the best outcomes. Every pick module is tailored to the facility and corporate objectives.
Main Components of Warehouse Pick Modules
To store products in a way that isolates each pick slot while allowing storage for several items per slot, the majority of pick modules employ a combination of gravity flow rack and shelf. Order pickers take products from ergonomically placed levels and load them into mobile carts with totes for batch processing or conveyors for packing.

The number of SKUs, volume and pick rate targets all influence the storage types and configurations in your pick module. Your inventory specifications will also be important since larger, heavier products should be placed within easy reach to reduce worker strain.

Building a Pick Module
Gravity flow storage facilities, like carton flow or pallet flow, are commonly seen in pick modules. Inventory is moved dynamically from the rear load aisle to the pick aisle using wheels and rollers. Inventory moves forward as workers pick goods, automatically replenishing and keeping your team picking without waiting. Reserve storage is frequently situated close by, either in lanes that are adjacent to the pick area or in storage levels above it. This keeps vehicles out of the way and increases worker productivity and safety.
For inventories with a medium turn, carton flow works the best. More affordable shelving can be used to store slower-moving items. There are many shelving options available, such as configurable industrial shelving and hanging systems, which provide ample SKU storage in a compact design.
A well-designed system transfers the goods from in-processing to order fulfillment by combining technology with conveyor and sortation systems. Full pallets are broken down into cartons and pieces when they are moved from push-back, pallet flow, or pallet rack reserve storage. After that, inventory is placed in pick locations that have been specially created to complete the order.
The Ironstone team has a great deal of experience with all the components of a pick module, and we will work with you to figure out solutions that best meet your needs to build the most affordable order-picking process for your company.
