Button Types and Functions
Floor Selection Buttons: These are usually numbered buttons
representing different floors. Passengers select the floor the
elevator will stop at by pressing the corresponding number. Some
numbers are preceded by a "-" to indicate a basement floor, such as
"-1" for the basement floor below ground level.
Door Closing Button: This button typically features a vertical bar
with two triangles on either side, facing the bar. Pressing this
button causes the elevator doors to close prematurely.
Door Opening Button: This button has the opposite icon of the Door
Closing Button, with two triangles facing outward. When the
elevator doors are about to close and there are passengers waiting
to board, pressing this button reopens them.
Intercom Button: This button typically features a telephone icon.
Pressing this button allows passengers to communicate with
security, the duty office, or other departments, and is used to
request assistance in an emergency.
Alarm Button: This button typically features a bell icon. Trapped
passengers press this button to alert the duty office and send a
distress signal.
