Galvanizing: The clean, fluxed strip is immersed in a molten zinc bath (typically ~450°C / 842°F). A metallurgical reaction occurs between the iron in the steel and the molten zinc, forming a series of zinc-iron alloy layers bonded to the steel substrate, topped by a layer of nearly pure zinc.

 

Wiping & Cooling: As the strip exits the bath, air knives precisely control the thickness of the outer zinc layer. The coil is then cooled, solidifying the coating.
