Introduction about incubator
Within the pharmaceutical industry, laboratory incubators are
silent partners in every stage of medicine discovery and
development. In early research, they are used to culture pathogenic
bacteria or fungi for high-throughput screening of novel antibiotic
compounds.
In cell-based assays, they maintain the viability of reporter cell
lines used to test medicine efficacy and toxicity (cytotoxicity
assays). Stability testing, a regulatory requirement, heavily
relies on incubators. medicine substances and finished products are
stored in stability chambers—essentially highly precise,
large-scale incubators—under controlled temperature and humidity
(e.g., 25°C/60% RH or 40°C/75%RH per ICH guidelines) to determine
shelf life. Biologics development, including monoclonal antibodies
and vaccines, is impossible without advanced CO2 incubators. Here,
mammalian cells like Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells are grown to
produce therapeutic proteins; the incubator ensures optimal growth
conditions for these "living factories."
Furthermore, incubators support pharmacokinetic studies by housing
tissue samples or cell cultures used to model medicine metabolism.
From identifying a lead molecule to proving its long-term
stability, the incubator provides the controlled, consistent
environment necessary to generate the robust data required for
regulatory submissions and, ultimately, bringing safe, effective
medicines to market.
