Basic Properties

LOCTITE 518 is a one-component red gel-like acrylic sealant (dimethacrylate ester) with thixotropy and UV fluorescence. It cures anaerobically when confined between metal surfaces, provides immediate low-pressure sealing, fills gaps up to 0.25mm, and tolerates minor contamination from cutting/lubrication oils.

Core Characteristics

It bonds to both active (e.g. grit-blasted steel) and passive substrates (low-copper aluminum), forming a medium-strength seal. Key advantages include instant pressure resistance (1.35 MPa @ 0.05mm gap) and reliable curing with surfactant-containing cleaner residues.
