Defination of Manganin
Manganin is a Copper-Manganese-Nickel Resistance alloy; it combines all the properties required of a precision electrical resistance alloy such as high resistivity, low temperature coefficient of resistance, very low thermal effect against copper and good performance of electrical resistance over long periods of time.
Alloy Available of Manganin
a) Wire φ8.00~0.02 b) Ribbon t=2.90~0.05 w=40~0.4 c) Plate (Standard) 1.0t×100w×800L d) Foil t=0.40~0.02 w=120~5
Chemical composition of Manganin
86% copper, 12% manganese, and 4% nickel
Manganin application:
Manganin is used in the manufacture of resistors, particularly ammeter
shunts, because of its virtually zero temperature coefficient of
resistance value and long term stability. Several Manganin
resistors served as the legal standard for the ohm in the United
States from 1901 to 1990. Manganin wire is also used as an
electrical conductor in cryogenic systems, minimizing heat transfer
between points which need electrical connections.
a) It is used for making wire wound precision resistance
b) Resistance boxes
c) Shunts for electrical measuring instruments
