The 1747-SN is an Allen-Bradley communication module designed to
enable Remote I/O (RIO) communication between devices that support
the RIO protocol. These include PanelView graphic operator
terminals, message displays, SLC500 controllers, other Programmable
Logic Controllers (PLCs), and third-party devices such as gateways
and protocol converters. Specifically functioning as a scanner
module, it communicates with compatible RIO adapter modules to
request I/O status updates, messages, and diagnostics across the
RIO network.
The 1747-SN is equipped with one RIO communication port, featuring
a 3-pin terminal that requires a specific communication cable
(e.g., Belden 9463). For RIO protocol implementation, the maximum
physical wire length supported is 3050 meters (1050 feet). It can
connect up to 16 devices in normal mode and 32 devices in
complementary mode. This scanner module supports data transfer at
57.6 Kbaud over a cable length of 3048 meters, and at 230.4 Kbaud
over 762 meters. Devices are connected in a daisy-chain topology,
with both ends terminated using an 82-ohm resistor.
The 1747-SN facilitates downloading, uploading, and commissioning
of the SLC500 controller, as well as data transfer to connected
graphic terminals in the network. It also supports remote I/O
passthrough.
Leveraging the node’s extended capability, the 1747-SN transmits
information over the communication channel at 57.6 Kbaud across
3048 meters (10,000 feet) and at 230.4 Kbaud across a maximum of
762 meters (2,500 feet), using an 82-ohm terminating resistor. With
the node’s non-extended capability, it transmits at the same baud
rates (57.6 Kbaud and 230.4 Kbaud) over the same cable distances
(3048 meters and 762 meters), but with an 82-ohm, 1/2-watt
terminating resistor. It offers four selectable baud rates, which
are configured using two DIP switches (Switch 1 and Switch 2).
The 1747-SN operates within a temperature range of 0 to 60 degrees
Celsius, at 5 to 95% humidity (non-condensing). Its non-operational
temperature range is -40 to 85 degrees Celsius.
