Indications: This medication is used to treat a variety of skin conditions (e.g., insect bites, poison oak/ivy, eczema, dermatitis, allergies, rash, itching of the outer female genitals, anal itching). Hydrocortisone reduces the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in these types of conditions. This medication is a mild corticosteroid. Contra-indications: Hydrocortisone is contraindicated in conditions like Ulcers, Systemic infections, Hypersensitivity. Adverse Effects: Hydrocortisone, which give rise to further complications include Convulsions, Gi bleeding, Telangiectasia, Striae, Glaucoma, Cataract, Pancreatitis, Hypersensitivity reactions, Osteoporosis, Psychosis, Increased intracranial pressure, Growth retardation, Glucose intolerance, Epidermal thinning, Vertebral fractures, Avascular necrosis, Papilloedema, Opthalmic fungal or viral disease, Dendritic corneal ulcers, Thromboembolic disorder, Long bone fractures, Hypokalemic alkalosis, Reduced visual function, Tendon rupture, Intestinal perforation, Opportunistic infections, Addisonian crises, Adrenal atrophy, Increased IOP (intraocular pressure), Subcutaneous atrophy. Drug Interactions: Hydrocortisone is known to interact with other drugs like Aminoglutethimide, Amobarbital, Amphotericin B, Ascorbic Acid, Aspirin, Carbamazepine, Frusemide or Furosemide, Gentamicin, Ipilimumab, Lofexidine, Metyrosine, Natamycin, Oxandrolone, Phenobarbitone, Phenytoin (Na), Primidone, Promethazine (HCl), Rhubarb, Rifampicin, Rotavirus vaccine, Tice-BCG. These interactions are sometimes beneficial and sometimes may pose threats to life. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required. Precautions & Warning: Although hydrocortisone butyrate is an effective medication for treating various skin conditions, it is not suitable for everyone. Make sure your healthcare provider knows about any other medications you are taking or if you have any allergies before beginning treatment with hydrocortisone butyrate. Safety precautions and warnings also include possible risks associated with using this medicine while pregnant or breastfeeding. Use in Pregnancy and Nursing Mothers: There are no data on the excretion of benzoyl peroxide-hydrocortisone topical into human milk. The manufacturer recommends caution when administering benzoyl peroxide-hydrocortisone to nursing women. Treatment/antidote in The Event of Overdose: If you accidentally use to much hydrocortisone, contact the nearest hospital casualty department or your doctor immediately. Storage instructions: Store below 25℃. Protect from moisture. Keep out of reach of children. |
