TETRACYLINE EYE OINMENT

This is a tetracycline eye hydrochloride preparation, possessing strong anti-bacterial efficacy and is non-irritant to the eyes. Its therapeutic value is similar to that of oxytetracycline and chlortetracycline, suitable for patients allergic to penicillin.

Each gram contains 10,000 I.U. (10mg) tetracycline hydrochloride.

Mechanism of action:

Tetracycline Hydrochloride is broad-spectrum bacteriostatic agent and act by inhibiting protein synthesis by blocking the binding of aminoacyl TMA to the MRNA ribosome complex. Reversible binding occurs primarily at the 30s ribosomal subunit of susceptible organisma. Bacteril cell way synthesis is not inhibited.

Indications:

Tetracycline Hydrochloride eye ointment is indicated in the treatment of conjunctivitis, blepharitis, trachoma and other eye infections.

Usual adult dose:

Apply the eye ointment to the lower eyelid pouch, 3times daily.

Usual pediatric dose:

See usual adult dose.

Strength usually available:

1%

Storage:

Store below 40C, preferably between 15 and 30C, protect from freezing.
