High frequency litz wire is formed by twisting individual wires insulated from each other and is typically used in applications operating at frequencies between 10 kHz and 5 MHz. High frequency will cause the current to pass only in the outer area of the conductor or even only along the surface of the conductor, which is the "skin effect". As a result, the current-carrying cross-sectional area is reduced, resulting in high-frequency losses. Similar losses are caused by the "proximity effect" at higher frequencies, where adjacent electric fields concentrate currents on adjacent sides and adversely affect the electromagnetic distribution. The structure of Litz wire using stranded insulated wire can effectively reduce these high frequency losses.
