The IC697CPM924 is a 32-bit CPU module specifically engineered for
compatibility with GE Fanuc’s Series 90-70 Programmable Logic
Controller (PLC) systems. Equipped with a 64-megahertz (MHz)
microprocessor, this module supports both fixed-point and
floating-point arithmetic operations, delivering versatile
computational capabilities for industrial automation tasks. A key hardware specification is its 1 megabyte (MB) of on-board
random-access memory (RAM), which stores critical application data.
To ensure data integrity during mains power failures, the module
features a replaceable lithium battery that provides backup power
to the RAM. This battery offers a rated shelf life of 10 years when
operating at an ambient temperature of 68 degrees Fahrenheit (20
degrees Celsius). In the event of PLC rack power loss, it can
maintain RAM data retention for a nominal period of 6 months. Note
that the old battery must be removed before installing a new one to
ensure proper replacement. Environmental operating parameters are crucial for maintaining
optimal performance. The module functions reliably within an
ambient temperature range of 0 to 60 degrees Celsius; exceeding
this range may result in degraded performance, while extreme high
temperatures can lead to permanent module failure. For timekeeping
accuracy, the IC697CPM924 incorporates two precision clocks: the
time-of-day (TOD) clock has a maximum error of 3.5 seconds per day,
and the elapsed time clock maintains a maximum accuracy deviation
of 0.1%. Software configuration and connectivity are streamlined through
multiple interface options. The module includes an integrated
serial port and leverages a parallel port on the bus transmitter
PLC module for basic configuration. For networked environments, an
optional Ethernet module can be added to establish connections with
computers running configuration software. Operational control is
flexible: the module can be managed via a 3-position RUN/STOP
switch on the hardware or remotely from programming computers. Installation safety is emphasized with a critical operational
guideline: the PLC rack’s power supply must be completely
disconnected prior to installing the IC697CPM924 module. This
precaution prevents electrical damage to the module or associated
components during setup. Combining robust processing power,
reliable data backup, and flexible control options, the IC697CPM924
