The IC693CPU331 is a modular central processing unit (CPU) module
belonging to the Series 90-30 Programmable Logic Controller (PLC)
product line, designed and manufactured by GE Fanuc Emerson. As a
core component of GE Fanuc's 90-30 PLC systems, this module
features an 80188 microprocessor that operates at a clock speed of
10 Megahertz (MHz), delivering a high-performance processing
capability with a typical scan rate of 0.4 milliseconds per 1K of
Boolean logic. Equipped with 16 Kbytes of user program memory, the IC693CPU331 is
engineered to support a comprehensive range of I/O configurations.
It can accommodate up to 512 discrete input points (%I) and 512
discrete output points (%Q), along with 128 words of analog inputs
(%AI) and 64 words of analog outputs (%AQ). Complementing these I/O
capacities is a robust internal memory structure, which includes
1280 bits of discrete global memory, 1024 bits of internal coils,
256 bits of temporary coils, 128 bits of system status references,
2048 words of register memory, and 16 words of system
registers—note that the system registers are exclusively for
reference table viewing and cannot be utilized in user logic
programs. In terms of functional resources, the module provides 680 timers
and counters and supports shift register instructions.
Distinguishing itself from embedded CPU alternatives, the
IC693CPU331 offers an override function and is integrated with a
battery-backed clock. Its default memory type is Random Access
Memory (RAM), with the flexibility to incorporate optional EPROM or
EEPROM for enhanced data storage needs. For connectivity and expansion, the IC693CPU331 is equipped with
one built-in serial port, which is accessible via the connector on
the PLC power supply. This serial port supports SNP slave and SNP-X
slave protocols; however, additional modules are required for
extended protocol support—such as a separate CMM module for SNP
master, SNP-X master, CCM, and RTU slave functions, and a dedicated
PCM module for RTU master capabilities. For expanded serial
communication, the AD693CMM301 module can be added to provide two
extra serial ports. The module also offers multi-tasking control
support when paired with a compatible State Logic Processor (SLP). In terms of physical and operational specifications, the
IC693CPU331 has a weight of 0.75 pounds (0.34 kilograms) and
operates within a temperature range of 32 to 140 degrees
Fahrenheit. It is designed to fit into any 5-slot or 10-slot CPU
baseplate, but must be installed in the dedicated CPU slot (Slot
1). The module draws a current load of 350 milliamps (mA) from the
backplane at a bus voltage of +5 Volts Direct Current (VDC). Supporting extensive I/O expansion, the IC693CPU331 can be paired
with up to four expansion baseplates and four Remote I/O
baseplates, making it a versatile solution for a wide range of
industrial automation applications that require scalable processing
