The CPU uses a digitally operating electronic system using programmable memory for storing the user’s instructions. These settings are then used for functions like logic, process sequencing, timing, coupling, and arithmetic.
This allows the user to control machines and processes through digital and analog outputs. The Quantum CPU also serves as the bus master for controlling the local, remote, and distributed I/O of the Modicon Quantum system. The 140-CPU-434-12A uses a single slide switch to select the comm parameter settings for the Modbus (RS-323) ports. The Quantum CPU hardware defaults to a bridge mode when the front panel switch is set to RTU mode or ASCII mode. When networking controllers together, a panel device connected to the CPU Modbus port can also communicate with the controlly that it is connected to, as well as log into any nodes that are on the Modbus Plus network.
If the switch position is set to stop, the application in Flash memory is not being transferred to the internal RAM, and a warm restart of the application is then triggered.
