The alloying of titanium tubing with elements such as aluminum and vanadium increase the strength of titanium while at the same time retains its weight advantage over steel. Titanium is classified in two categories, commercially pure and alloys with additives such as aluminum and vanadium. Titanium Grades: Titanium Grade 1 is an unalloyed, low strength titanium product containing low oxygen with high formability; this titanium grade is used in airframes, heat exchangers and desalination units. Grade 1 commercially pure titanium wire is especially acid-cleaned for anodizing applications but is also ideal for a wide range of fabrication uses. It is ductile and can be formed with a bit of effort. The metal is corrosion-resistant and hypoallergenic. Titanium Grade 2 is an unalloyed, medium strength titanium product. This titanium grade is used in airframes, aircraft engines, and marine parts; good weld ability and corrosion resistance are its distinguishing characteristics.
