What is A Gripper?

A Cable Gripper is an adjustable fastener that automatically grips and locks to any position on an

aircraft cable using an internal, spring-loaded 3-ball gripping mechanism. This allows the Gripper

to move freely up the cable but not down unless the mechanism is released.

Do I need tools to adjustable the Gripper?

No, the Gripper mechanism is released by pressing the plunger manually.

Do I need a Safety Nut?

Most Grippers have optional “safety nuts” or “safety caps” to lock the mechanism off in both directions.

Are locknuts provided with Grippers?

Generally no, but Grippers with metric threads are supplied with a corresponding bolt or lock nut.

When feeding cable into the Gripper, always allow it to pass at least 1” beyond the body of the Gripper.

When cutting off excess cable always leave at least 1” of cable showing. Cables may be cut using purpose-built cutters. Cable will not fray unless passed repeatedly through the Gripper mechanism or otherwise abused. To prevent fraying of freshly cut ends, re-solder or apply a drop of super-glue.

Do not feed excess cable into a lighting fixture housing or junction box containing elctrical wiring.Use only 7×7 or 7×19 uncoated galvanized or stainless steel aircraft cable.
