IEC60587 High Voltage Tracking Test Apparatus for Tracking and
Erosion Tests
1. Introduction
The high voltage tracking test apparatus is applied to tracking and
erosion tests for insulating material of electronics products and
household appliance according to IEC60587. The test uses liquid
contaminants and inclined specimen to evaluate the resistance to
tracking and corrosion of electrical insulating materials under
severe ambient conditions at power frequency (48Hz-62Hz).
Under the influence of humidity and impurity environment,
electrical products may cause leakage of insulation between live
parts of different polarities or between live parts and grounded
metal, and the resulting arc may cause breakdown and short-circuit
to the electrical appliances or cause electrical corrosion of
materials due to discharge damage or even ignite causing a fire.
This equipment is to simulate above conditions and performs a
destructive test for insulating materials, to measure and evaluate
the relative tracking resistance of the insulator under the action
of electric field and impurity water.
2. Parameters
Test voltage | 1). 500~10KV (adjustable) 2). The over-current delay relay operates when 60mA±6mA or more has
persisted in the high-voltage circuit for 2s to cut off the
current, and indicates that the specimen is unqualified |
Test current | 5~60mA |
Filter-paper size | Manufactured according IEC60587 figure 9, the thickness is 0.15mm
to 0.17mm |
Dropping device | 1). the height of dropping device is adjustable 2). flow rate:0.075ml/min~0.9ml/min (adjustable) 3). the test time can be preset |
Contaminant | 1). 0.1%±0.002% by mass of NH4CL analytical quality and
0.02%±0.002% by mass of isooctylphenoxypolyethoxyethanol (a
non-ionic wetting agent) in distilled or de-ionized water 2). the contaminant shall have a resistivity of 3.95Ωm±0.05Ωm at
23℃±1℃ |
Electrode | Top electrode and bottom electrode are made of stainless steel with
thickness of 0.5mm, the sizes are completely designed according to
IEC60587 figures 4 and 5, the distance between top electrode and
bottom electrode is 50±0.5mm |
Protection measures | All parts are insulated except the electrodes and other metal parts
required by standard, and equipped with plexiglass observation
window |
Judgment criteria | Criterion A: The end point is reached when the current in the high
voltage through the specimen exceeds 60mA, the over-current device
then breaks this current not before 2s, or when a specimen shows a
hole due to intensive erosion or the specimen ignites. Criterion B: The end point is reached when the track reaches a mark
on the specimen surface 25mm from the lower electrode or when a
specimen shows a hole due to intensive erosion or the specimen
ignites. |
Working Power | 380V/50Hz |
