DS200NATOG3ACB is a Voltage Feedback Scaling board developed by GE. It is part of the GE Speedtronic Mark V control system. It manages
and scales voltage feedback from an SCR (Silicon Controlled
Rectifier) bridge. Its primary function is to attenuate both AC and
DC voltages produced by the SCR bridge, which is essential for
accurate feedback measurement.
Features
- The board works by reducing the amplitude of the high voltages
generated by the SCR bridge to levels that can be safely and
accurately processed by the control system. This attenuation
ensures that the feedback signals from the SCR bridge are precise
and reliable.
- In addition to its attenuation role, the board integrates with
other critical components of the control system. It collaborates
with a gate distribution and status board, which manages the
distribution of gate pulses and status signals needed for the SCR
bridge's operation. The board also interfaces with a VME backplane,
which provides the necessary connectivity and communication
pathways for system integration.
- By attenuating the SCR bridge voltages and working in conjunction
with the gate distribution board and VME backplane, the board
ensures that voltage feedback is accurately scaled and effectively
integrated into the control system. This contributes to the overall
stability and performance of the electrical system.
Input
- The board is designed with five identical series-connected strings
of precision resistors. These strings are specifically arranged to
handle different types of voltage inputs.
- There is one string dedicated to each of the three AC phases of the
SCR bridge, as well as one string each for the positive and
negative DC bus voltages.
- Each resistor string can be configured to handle various input
voltages through a combination of input stab connectors and wire
jumpers.
- The board offers a choice of three different input stab connectors
and two wire jumpers, allowing for attenuation of input voltages to
five specific levels: 6900 volts, 4200 volts, 3300 volts, 2200
volts, or 1200 volts. This configurability ensures that the board
can be tailored to accommodate different voltage requirements and
operational conditions.
Output
- The outputs from the five resistor strings are consolidated into a
single 20-pin ribbon header. This ribbon header serves as the
primary connection point for interfacing with other components
within the control system. By using a 20-pin ribbon header, the
NATO board efficiently channels the scaled voltage signals from all
five strings into one cohesive output interface, facilitating
easier integration with other system elements.
- To ensure the safety and reliability of the output signals, each
output is equipped with a metal oxide varistor (MOV). The MOV plays
a crucial role in protecting the system against excessive voltage
conditions. If the output ribbon circuit is interrupted while input
voltage is still present, the MOV acts to clamp and limit the
voltage, preventing it from rising to levels that could potentially
damage the system or other connected components. This protective
measure helps maintain the integrity of the output signals and
ensures that the system operates within safe voltage parameters.
- The burden resistor, which is essential for accurate voltage
measurement and signal scaling, is not located on the board itself.
Instead, it is situated on the gate distribution and status board.
This design choice allows the board to focus on its primary
function of voltage attenuation and scaling, while the burden
resistor, located on the gate distribution and status board,
manages the conversion of the attenuated signals into measurable
voltage values. This arrangement helps streamline the functionality

broader control system.
