Zirconium Corrosion Resistance & Application
Zirconium is completely resistant to alkali solutions and molten
alkalis. The corrosion resistance of zirconium in sodium hydroxide
medium is the same as that of nickel. Because zirconium has
excellent corrosion resistance, it is much better than tantalum and
precious metals in many cases. In addition, zirconium also has good
mechanical properties and high temperature resistance.
Therefore, zirconium is mainly used in chemical equipment,
especially equipment that requires high corrosion resistance.
Zirconium is mainly used in the manufacture of heat exchangers,
container linings, valves, pump casings, blades, agitators,
pipelines, etc. in chemical equipment. Zirconium is used in many
chemical equipment for the production of fertilizers, resins,
plastics and acids.

Zr702 and Zr705 should be ASTM numbers. The only difference in
composition is that the oxygen content of zr705 is a little higher,
Zr702 is less than 0.16, and zr705 is less than 0.18. However, the
mechanical properties of zr705 are better than that of Zr702. There
is not much difference in corrosion resistance.
