Trigger points are the principal cause of pain in the back, neck, shoulder and limbs.

They are associated with palpable nodules in taut bands of muscle fibers and have extremely

contracted sarcomeres.

The dysfunctional sarcomeres contract so tightly that they begin to cut off their own blood supply.

This causes the waste products to build up.

This vicious cycle is referred to as “metabolic crisis”.

Are There Any Side Effects?

ESWT is not known to cause any significant adverse effects. However, potential complications

What Is The Procedure Like?

A hand-held probe is placed over the area of greatest tenderness and the shockwaves are 

delivered over a duration of approximately 20 minutes. Occasionally, mild transient discomfort 

may be felt at the treatment site, thus if necessary, topical local anaesthetic cream may be

applied prior to treatment.

How Many Sessions Are Required?
