The tubesheet is in contact with both fluids and must therefore be corrosion-resistant and have metal-metallurgical and electrochemical properties suitable for fluid and velocity. Titanium is a good material to meet this, it has a good corrosion resistance to salt water and chromic acid.

The hole pattern or "pitch" changes the distance from one tube to another, as well as the relative Angle and flow of the tube to the other. This allows the manipulation of fluid velocity and pressure drop, and provides maximum turbulent volume and tube surface contact for effective heat transfer.
