Vertical cuttings dryer is a new type of equipment that deal with the drilling cuttings waste. Vertical cuttings dryer is also referred to as centrifuge separator. The main principle of it is centrifugal force separation. Almost oil base mud waste will use cuttings dryer to help get more dry disposal from the management system.

How vertical cuttings dryer work

In drilling operations, typical solids control equipment discards 1-4 barrels of liquid for each barrel of solids removed. It uses centrifugal force to dry drilled solids in oil or synthetic base fluids. Stainless steel screen bowl traps “wet” solids and accelerates them up 900RPM with G force to 420G. 

The cuttings dryer inside, there is an air knife, screen basket. Under the rotation of the basket, the dry cuttings will be pushed out of the dryer through the discharge port.

The liquid is forced to pass through the screen bowl openings, while “dry” solids are extracted by the angled flights attached to the cone, which rotate slightly slower than the bowl. Tungsten carbide protects the flights from abrasive solids and ensures long operational life. This aids in maintaining a constant gap between the scroll and screen bowl, which is crucial for proper operation.

The cuttings dryer model number means the internal screen basket diameter. 930mm means the diameter of the screen basket is 930mm. While the 700 means the diameter of the basket is 700mm.
