VLAN Tag VLAN Untag VLAN Replace or VLAN Stripping in Network Packet Broker and Network Tap
The interface adds or deletes VLAN tags from the Ethernet data frames it sends and receives, depending on the interface type of the interface and the default VLAN. Comparison of different types of interfaces for adding or stripping VLAN tags:
The processing process of adding or stripping VLAN tags from the above interfaces can be seen: 1- when receiving data frames without VLAN tags, the Access interface, Trunk interface and Hybrid interface will all label the data frames with VLAN tags. However, the Access interface and Hybrid interface will judge whether the vids of the data frames are allowed to pass through the VLAN, while the Access interface will receive them unconditionally. 2- when receiving a data frame with a VLAN tag, the Access interface, Trunk interface, and Hybrid interface will determine whether to receive the data frame based on whether the VID of the data frame is the VLAN it is allowed to pass through (the VLAN that the Access interface is allowed to pass through is the default VLAN). 3- when sending data frames: - The Access interface strips the VLAN tag directly from the data frame. - The Trunk interface will strip VLAN tags from the data frame only if the VID in the data frame is equal to the PVID of the interface. - The -hybrid interface determines whether to strip the VLAN tag from the data frame based on the configuration on the interface.
Therefore, the data frames sent by the Access interface definitely do not have tags. For the data frames sent by the Trunk interface, only one VLAN data frame does not have tags, while the others all have VLAN tags. For the data frames sent by Hybrid interface, some VLAN data frames can be set with tags, while some VLAN data frames do not have tags. Several Commonly Used Packet Forwarding Mechanisms during VLAN Tags adding or stripping: 1- Process Switching Network Packet Brokers(NPBs) VLAN Tag, VLAN Stripping Application
