The slit lamp microscope is the most frequently used optical device in ophthalmology. The slit lamp microscope can clearly observe the eyelids, conjunctiva, sclera, cornea, anterior chamber, iris, pupil, lens and the anterior 1/3 of the vitreous, and can determine the location, nature, size and depth of the lesion. If equipped with accessories, the inspection scope will be more extensive.

The slit lamp microscope is composed of an illumination system and a binocular microscope. It can not only make the superficial lesions be observed very clearly, but also can adjust the focus and the width of the light source to make an "optical section" so that the lesions of deep tissues can also be clearly displayed .
