Turbidity varies widely and is typically measured from 0 to 5,000 ntu. Typical bottled drinking water is measured in single digits in ntu. Turbid water usually contains more than 1,000 ntu.

 

While turbidity itself is usually not regulated, it is indicative of the overall cleanliness of the water and may indicate the presence of suspended contaminants. This field-friendly measurement indicates the presence of multiple contaminants that stain the sample. Turbidity measurements from different locations in the treatment stream can help track improved water quality as the water moves throughout the treatment process.
