The Features of Air Springs
Air suspensions work by leveling the entire suspension and
providing a better grip. Some of the disadvantages of air
suspension systems are due to a number of vulnerable mechanical
issues. Several common problems with air suspension systems that
require repair include:
- Rust or moisture inside, which can cause the air strut or air bag
to fail.
- Failure of the air suspension tube that connects the air strut or
air bag to the air system.
- Failure of the air match due to initial installation or infrequent
use.
- Compressor burnout due to spring or air strut leaks, with the
compressor constantly engaging to maintain the proper air pressure.
- Air suspension systems may seem more mysterious, but at the end of
the day, they are not that much different. Most modern. suspensions
consist of shock absorbers placed in or near them instead of coil
springs. In essence, air suspensions are really just. flexible,
pressurized air bags, usually made of the same rubber as tires, but
without the coil springs. With the push of a button, the air bags
inflate or deflate, instantly changing the ride height and the
performance of the suspension.
