SAA Overview
Serum amyloid A (SAA) is an acute phase reaction protein secreted
by the liver, which exists in trace amount in the blood of healthy
people. When virus or bacterial infection occurs, SAA begins to
increase significantly in 3-6 hours, and increases hundreds or even
thousands of times in acute state. SAA has a short half-life and
can rapidly decline in the recovery period of disease, which is
more sensitive than CRP. Combined detection of SAA and CRP can
better distinguish the types of infection and improve the
diagnostic efficiency of virus infection.
