Function in motor application
1. If the temperature of the motor winding exceeds the maximum rated temperature, the winding may be damaged, or the motor insulation may be damaged or even completely fail. This is why most electric motors and gear motors (especially those used in motion control applications) integrate a thermistor or silicon resistance sensor (also known as a KTY sensor) into the motor winding. These sensors directly monitor the winding temperature (rather than relying on current measurement) and are used in conjunction with protection circuits to prevent damage due to high temperatures. 2.
