PTCR (Positive Temperature Coefficient of Resistance) is a thermistor with strong positive temperature characteristics. The main component is BaTiO3. BaTiO3 ceramic is a typical ferroelectric material. The room temperature resistivity is greater than 10 12Ω·cm. It is an insulator. After semiconducting doping, a strong PTC effect is shown—the resistivity at room temperature is very low, and with the increase of temperature, a mutation occurs near the Curie point, resulting in several orders of magnitude change. This is because there is a barrier layer caused by the surface state at the grain boundary of the polycrystalline BaTiO3 semiconductor material. At the Curie temperature, the grain boundary is ferroelectric, the dielectric constant is large, the barrier height is low, and the electrons are very ferroelectric. It is easy to pass through the potential barrier, and the corresponding material resistivity is small, but above the Curie temperature, the grain boundary layer undergoes lattice transformation, the ferroelectricity disappears, and the dielectric constant decreases sharply. According to the Curie-Weiss law, so The barrier then rises. With the sharp increase of the height of the potential barrier, it is difficult for electrons to cross the potential barrier, and the resistivity of the corresponding material rises sharply, which is manifested as the PTC effect of the material macroscopically. Due to this characteristic of PTC thermistors, thermistors have been widely used in both industrial electronic equipment and household appliances.
