Nasopharyngeal swabs should be taken from 5 (maximum) most recently symptomatic patients only.
Explain the procedure to the patient; obtain consent to take swab where possible - implied consent is acceptable and where consent cannot be obtained as the patient does not have capacity, records need to indicate that we are acting in the patient’s best interest. Ensure privacy while the procedure is being carried out.
1 Swab should be used for a sample from both nares (nostrils) and 1 swab for a sample from the throat (there are 2 swabs per container).
Our disposable virus specimen collection tube are used for the collection and transportation of Novel Coronavirus/SARS COV-2, Influenza, Avian Influenza, Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease, Measles, Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, and Urea plasma specimens.
Instruction 1. Remove the swabs from its package. 2. Ask the patient to open their mouth and vigorously rub the
inside of each cheek and over the gums of the test subject for 30
seconds. 3. Air dry the swab for 3 minutes. 4. Snap the swab at the break point to fit in tube and screw the
cap tightly. 5. Label with appropriate patient information. 6. Place specimen in the biohazard bag and seal bag.
