Critical? Rotary type of tablet machines incorporates a two-step compression process of tablets. Here, granulation undergoes a first compression where it is compacted under light compression. This first stage of compression is what we refer to as pre-compression. After pre-compression, the tablet undergoes a second compression stage which is referred to as the main compression. Here, a higher compression pressure is applied on the compact to ensure the proper hardness of the tablet is achieved. The pre-compression stage, note, is usually applied to eliminate entrapped air from tablet formulations. Lots of air in the powder can significantly affect the integrity of the tablet.
