Each sectional door is made up of a number of individual horizontal
sections, stacked one on top of the other with galvanized steel
hinges holding them together. This is where the name “overhead sectional door” comes from. The number of sections, their height, width and what each section
contains is determined by the application as well as by the
assembly’s requirements and limitations. Sections can be made of steel, aluminum, wood, vinyl, or composite
material. ArmRLite overhead doors, in particular, are manufactured with
either steel or aluminum for strength and longevity.
The track and spring system of a sectional door is also unique to
this door type. Sectional doors use torsion or extension springs to counter the
weight of the door and allow users to open and close them easily. For larger doors, or for applications that need them, motors can
also be installed to make operating a sectional door even easier.
The track system of a sectional door is available in a number of
lift options depending on the headroom space available. Typically a sectional door will have a track system that will move
the door vertically upwards, though a radius and back into the room
horizontally overhead. An operable sectional door will always have a track system as part
of the assembly.
