Specification A threaded rod, also known as a stud, is a relatively long rod that is threaded on both ends; the thread may extend along the complete length of the rod. They are designed to be used in tension. Threaded rod in bar stock form is often called all-thread. All thread rod, commonly referred to as fully threaded rod, redi-rod, continuously threaded rod, TFL rod, and abbreviated ATR is used for general purpose fastening for anything from an anchor bolt to a through bolt. A variety of grades and materials are available. It is a medium strength bolt manufactured from a medium carbon or alloy steel that develops its mechanical values through a heat treating process. It is intended for general engineering applications. ASTM A449 is virtually identical in chemistry and strength to ASTM A325 and SAE J429 grade 5. However, A449 is more flexible in the sense that it covers a larger diameter range and is not restricted by a specific configuration.
