JIS B1180 Hexagon Head CL4.8 5.8 6.8 Carbon Steel Bolt Specification JIS B1180 Small Head Hex Bolts have the smallest width heads of all metric hex bolts/hex head cap screws. The width across flats (wrench size) of the three available sizes is 1 to 3 mm smaller than equal sized DIN 931, ISO 4014 and ANSI B18.2.3.1M bolts, while their head height is slightly larger. Otherwise, like their counterparts, they are partially threaded (PT) or fully threaded (FT) with external machine screw threads; use with both internally threaded holes and nuts. M8 is coarse pitch (1.25 mm) while M10 and M12 are fine pitch (but also 1.25 mm). Supplied in Class 8.8 steel, most are zinc plated to resist the formation of corrosion. Minimum threaded length of partially threaded bolts is related to bolt diameter; fully threaded bolts are also called tap bolts; thread tolerance is 6h for plated and 6g for unplated (plain finish); and threading is standard right-hand. Length is measured from under the head to the tip of the bolt.
