► Brief Introduction

The PRIMEDIC™ biphasic defibrillation technology has been integrated in the DefiMonitor XD generation.

The defibrillation pulse generated by a current-controlled pulse output stage, excludes current peaks that are damaging to cardiac muscle. The delivered energy is calculated in the automatic mode on the basis of body resistance, which ensures a high success rate by means of patient-specific treatment. The user can also exercise full control over the defibrillation energy in the manual mode, if required. The current changes its direction within a defined period of time (biphase). This feature facilitates a gentle and exceedingly effective defibrillation procedure.

► Indications/Contraindications of Defibrillation

The PRIMEDIC™ DefiMonitor XD shall ony be used, if atrial flutters/ fibrillations or certain arterial and ventrical tachycardial rhythm disorders exist which are accompanied by the following symptoms (indication):

• Unconscious and
• is not breathing and
• has no pulse or other signs of circulations.

The Defibrillator shall not be used, if the patient is

• is conscious or
• is breathing or
• has a detectable pulse or other signs of circulations or
• Asystoly
• Pulseless electrical activity
• Only applicable for automatic mode: a child under 8 years or less than 25 kg weight.
