ASTMF2063 Nitinol wire with shape memory ASTMF2063 Nitinol wire is a shape memory alloy made up of roughly equal parts of nickel and titanium. It is so named because it was discovered at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory (NOL) in the 1960s, here "nitinol" for nickel-titanium and "NOL" for Naval Ordnance Laboratory. ASTMF2063 Nitinol wire has unique properties that make it useful in a wide range of applications. One of its most notable properties is nitinol wire with shape memory, which means that it can be deformed when cold but will return to its original shape when heated. This property is due to a phase transition in the material that occurs at a specific temperature, known as the transformation temperature. Nitinol wire can also exhibit superelasticity, which means it can be deformed significantly and still return to its original shape upon removal of the stress. Nitinol wire's other properties are Super Elastic, so it is also called super elastic nitinol wire. These properties make ASTMF2063 nitinol wire useful in a variety of applications, including medical devices, such as stents and orthodontic wires, as well as in robotics and aerospace. Nitinol wire can be formed into a variety of shapes, including straight wire, coils, and springs, and can be used in a wide range of temperatures and environments
