1. Pressure sensing: The main relief valve adjusts by sensing the working pressure of the hydraulic system. When the pressure of the hydraulic system exceeds or reaches the set pressure threshold, the main relief valve begins to play a role.

2. Pressure balance: When the pressure of the hydraulic system exceeds the set pressure threshold, a balance is established between the pressure inside the main relief valve and the system pressure. At this time, the main relief valve adjusts the flow channel of the hydraulic system through the mechanism composed of the spool, spring and regulating device to control the working pressure of the system.

3. Overflow control: Once the pressure of the hydraulic system exceeds the set pressure threshold, the main relief valve will open the flow channel to allow excess hydraulic oil to flow back to the tank. This prevents the pressure of the system from being too high and protects the safety of hydraulic components and equipment. When the pressure of the hydraulic system is reduced below the set pressure threshold, the main relief valve will be closed again to maintain the stable working pressure of the system.

4. Pressure adjustment: The main relief valve usually has an adjustment device, and the operator can change the set pressure threshold by adjusting the parameters on the adjustment device, such as the spring preload force or the spool position.
