A control panel overlay is a plastic fascia screen printed or digitally printed on the rear of a clear plastic substrate. The printed detail is viewed through the front face of the control panel. Control panel overlays differentiate themselves from a panel in that graphic overlays incorporate interactivity, durability, and functionality with the piece. Panels are usually a protective component that may or may not have cut-outs for buttons, switches, or windows.

Rigid control panel graphic overlays provide a flat surface that protects buttons and retail displays in industries that require frequent cleaning or involve regular exposure to dirt or chemicals. While the panel overlays are designed to create a clean, flat look, custom graphic designs can be embossed to deliver textural context to the user and enable the designer to emphasize a section or button.
