Description of Car Wheel Mounting Screws

This socket head cap screw is used to mount the hub/wheel bearing to the suspension spindle/post.

It screws in from the back of the suspension uprights (usually you need 4 per hub).

BMW recommends replacing these screws with any new hub. This is an M10x1.5 thread, 35mm long, with a hexagon socket head.

The wheel bearings on these cars are mounted with this M10x1.5 bolt or M10x1.25 bolt.

Bearings/hubs and bolts have to match together, so you may not be able to reuse existing bolts on new hubs.

If your wheel bearing is 2017 or newer, it probably has a 1.25 pitch.

10b21 implements the American standard SAEJ403-2001, which is equivalent to the domestic 20MNB. The grade of 10b21 is carbon steel, which can also be called boron steel. Carburizing boron steel is more commonly used in 10b21, and its carbon content is generally lower than 0.25%. This kind of steel has better carburizing performance, and the carburizing layer will not form a large amount of residual austenite, so high hardness and high Wear resistance and good fatigue resistance, and the notch sensitivity is relatively small. In addition to being used in automobiles, tractors, machine tools, mining machinery, and power station equipment, 10b21 can also be used to manufacture various fasteners such as bolts, and can replace the original medium-carbon steel and medium-carbon chromium-nickel-molybdenum steel.
