Product Description

The main parameter of potentiometer has characteristic of change of value of nominal resistance, rated power, resolution, sliding noise, resistance, wear resistance, zero resistance and temperature coefficient.
1) Rated power
The maximum power dissipation allowed on the two fixed ends of the potentiometer is the potentiometer rated power. In use, it should be noted that the rated power is not equal to the power of the center tap and the fixed end. The rated power of potentiometer is to point to be in dc or in ac circuit, when atmospheric pressure is 87~107kPa, below the rated temperature of the regulation for a long time the maximum power that continuous load place allows to consume. 2) Nominal resistance
The nominal resistance value marked on the product in a series similar to the resistance series.
3) Allowable error level
The error range between the measured resistance value and the nominal resistance value can be ±20%, ±10%, ±5% according to different accuracy grades. Precision potentiometers are up to 0.1% accurate.
4) Resistance change rule
Refers to the change relationship between the resistance value and the rotation Angle (or sliding stroke) of the sliding sheet contact. This change relationship can be any function form, commonly used are linear, logarithmic and reverse logarithmic (exponential). In use, linear potentiometer is suitable for voltage divider; Reverse logarithmic (exponential) potentiometer is suitable for radio, recorder, record player, television volume controller. If you can't find the same kind of product when repairing, you can replace it with straight line, but you should not replace it with logarithmic type. Logarithmic potentiometers are only suitable for tone control

Application

This type of potentiometer has two terminal contacts between which a uniform resistance is placed in a semi-circular pattern. The device also has a middle terminal which is connected to the resistance through a sliding contact attached with a rotary knob. By rotating the knob one can move the sliding contact on the semi-circular resistance. The voltage is taken between a resistance end contact and the sliding contact. The potentiometer is also named as the POT in short. POT is also used in substation battery chargers to adjust the charging voltage of a battery. There are many more uses of rotary type potentiometer where smooth voltage control is required.
