Core Concept: The pillow packaging machine gets its name from the
appearance of the packaged product—resembling a "pillow." It uses a
single roll of packaging film to wrap individual or combined
products inside the machine, sealing the back and ends to form a
pillow-shaped bag with three or four-sided sealing.
I. Core Working Principle (Three-Step Forming Method)
Pillow packaging is a continuous process, its core components being
the "center sealing wheel" and the "end sealing cutter."
1. Tube Forming (Longitudinal Sealing):
The packaging film is drawn from the roll and passes through the
forming device (a key mechanical triangular or U-shaped plate).
The film is folded by the forming device, transforming from a flat
surface into a cylindrical shape, wrapping the product conveyed
from below.
The longitudinal edges of the film are heat-pressed and bonded by
the center sealing wheel (a continuously rotating wheel with
heating and patterns), forming a longitudinal back seal.
2. Filling and Conveying:
The product is pushed synchronously and at equal intervals into the
forming film tube via the feed conveyor belt. The machine's servo
system or mechanical synchronization mechanism ensures that the
product's entry is perfectly synchronized with the film's traction.
3. Horizontal Sealing and Cutting (End Sealing):
The film tube containing the product continues forward to the
horizontal sealing cutter.
The horizontal sealing cutter (usually a pair of grippers with
heating plates and sharp blades) moves back and forth or rotates
like scissors. It performs two actions simultaneously:
Horizontal Sealing: It clamps the front and back sides of the film
tube, heat-presses and seals them, forming the front seal of the
current package and the rear seal of the next package.
Cutting: It cuts the two packages apart in the middle of the two
seals.
Finally, a "pillow-shaped bag" with sealed ends and a longitudinal
seal on the back is completed.
II. Key Components and Technical Considerations
1. Forming Unit: The "heart" of the machine. Different shapes (such
as square forming units, round forming units) are suitable for
different products and film characteristics. A good forming device
ensures the film wraps the product smoothly and without wrinkles.
2. Center Sealing Roller and Horizontal Sealer:
Temperature Control: Precise PID temperature control is key to a
strong and aesthetically pleasing seal.
Patterns: Customizable anti-slip patterns and brand logo patterns
increase seal strength and appearance.
3. Drive and Control System:
Servo System: The core of a modern pillow-type packaging machine.
Three servo machines represent high-end performance and
flexibility.
Human-Machine Interface: Color touchscreen, capable of storing
numerous recipes, one-click production changeover.
4. Supporting Devices (Determine Functional Expansion):
Date Printer: Ink roller coding, thermal transfer coding (for
clearer results), or inkjet printer.
Photoelectric Tracking System: Ensures consistent pattern placement
on each package by detecting the cursor (color mark) on the film.
Gas Inflation/Vacuum Device: Can be modified into a nitrogen-filled
pillow-type packaging machine for preserving potato chips and
puffed foods.
Combination Scale/Multi-Head Scale: Used for precise weighing and
combining of granular and strip-shaped products before feeding
(e.g., nuts, pet food).
Metal Inspection Machine/Weight Inspection Machine: Integrates
quality and safety testing.
