Structural packaging is constructed from corrugated and deformed plastic sheets. The result is a very open honeycomb structure with sloping circulation channels that provide a relatively high surface area but very low resistance to gas flow. Each subsequent layer of the structural filler rotates 90° so that the sheet of one layer is perpendicular to the sheet of the layer above and below. As it passes through each layer, the gas and liquid mix completely parallel to the plane of the sheet. By rotating the subsequent layers, whether from side to side or from front to back, the entire cross section of the tower is well mixed and spread out. Perforation and surface structure maximize liquid diffusion.
